Abstract: This project on the Design Modification of Gabriel Shock Absorbers was carried out at the Matunga Railway Carriage Workshop. The purpose of the project is to increase the lifespan of the shock absorbers by implementing a more efficient design than the present one. This will also ensure lower maintenance cost and greater damping effect. It was found that the shock absorber used to accumulate water in its previous design leading to corrosion and reducing of its lifespan. All the other methods of corrosion resistance were considered and change in design was found most suitable. The modified design ensures that the accumulation does not occur and better damping effects. Detailed design and analysis of both the designs and complete stress analysis of the shock absorbers is given.
