dc.description.abstract | This research thesis is an attempt to understand the mine lands in Konkan region as a unique manmade landform formed because of the rapid urbanization and huge demand for the development in construction industry. So, there is imbalance between demand and supply in case of bricks made from the laterite stone in Konkan and outside of the region. And due to the huge demand, the laterite mining industry is uplifting in Konkan region and it has witnessed unprecedented growth as an industry, generating employment, opportunities and wealth for growth. However What remains a concern is, How these mining sites are abandoned and left to degrade after mineral and material extraction is terminated. These abandoned and overlooked voids in the earth can be rethought as new resource for creating infrastructure that uniquely address to reclaiming the changed topography and life. So, the research is to develop and synthesize an experience from an abandoned mine. The mine strikes a great challenge in its development for human activities in addition to the ecological restoration, also which can be the translation of its physical opportunities and experiences along with activities and human participation in the later use of mine will help in evolving a sustainable development model. | en_US |
