Abstract: | This study aimed to compare the different quality control parameters for expired and non-expired Chloroquine Phosphate tablet formulations. An expiration date, typically labeled by the manufacturer, refers to the time period during which the product is expected to retain its stability, or retain its quality, strength, and purity, when it is stored appropriately according to its labeled storage conditions. In some cases, some study reveals that, if the medicinal products are stored properly it is possible that they can retain stability even beyond their expiration date and are assumed safe to use. While it is important to ensure patient safety, the study is expected to focus on the quality of expired drug and to assess whether the quality of expired medicine deteriorates to what extent. It will also help in understanding potency of the expired formulation after the date of expiry and what are parameters which are affected after expiry date. This work focuses on qualitative evaluation of expired formulation with respect to the non-expired one. The results of this investigation can be utilized to help prepare for public health emergencies (for example, during a terrorist attack, in a war, outbreak of viral-flu, epidemic, pandemic, or earthquake) or drug shortages occurring due to many reasons including manufacturing and quality problems, delays, and discontinuations severe enough to cause local medical supplies to run out. |
