Abstract:
The main aim of this research paper is to
establish the criteria for designing an environment
targeted at the patient‘s psychology that helps them
feel comfortable and at home while combating a
debilitating disease like Cancer. This study is directed at
the contribution of architects in reducing stress in
patients and influences their psychology in a positive
way.
Cancer is a dreadful disease that affects
millions of people all over the world. Cancer knows no
political, religious, caste, colour, race boundaries. It
affects people from different economic segments and
a varied age group. Cancer patients spend a lot of
time at hospitals depending on the severity of their
disease.
The research emphasizes on reducing the stress
through built environment of a cancer patient.
It mainly aims at developing a concrete
relationship between built environments with the
reactions of cancer patients. The reduction of stress of
this disease through different architectural treatments
and principles is the main goal. The stress has an
impact on the recovery of such patients.
The findings from this research provide
evidence that there is a clear link between cancer
patient‘s psychology and the built environment. The
main conclusions that I seek to draw from this
dissertation is attempt to establish the elements of the
built environment that can influence a cancer patient‘s
psychology and come to a design criteria for such an
environment.
