URBAN POPULATION has been sharply growing since last several decades, and the rate of
growth has been steadily increasing due to various factors such as economic reasons. In the
future, not only the population in cities but also the number and size of cities are expected to
grow. This profound growth in urbanization is imposing several serious problems on human and
earth, such as pollution, deforestation and food scarcity. In our project, to learn and understand
about such problems, we have selected a few cities from different parts of the world and assessed
them on a wide spectrum of various parameters ranging from land use to transportation to
architecture to environment and sustainability. Based on this research, we have selected a few
urban problems, such as lack of open spaces, for further analysis. Then, we have studied about
some cities which have successfully tackled these problems. Finally, we have presented a
comparison of the selected cities highlighting the similarities and differences between them in a
tabular format. |
